Detective not guilty of assault
Dumfries Sheriff Court
Dumfries Sheriff Court, where DC Orr was on trial
A detective constable with Dumfries and Galloway Police has been found not guilty of assaulting a man he was trying to arrest.

DC Gordon Orr, son of former Strathclyde chief constable Sir John Orr, was acquitted after a two-day trial at Dumfries Sheriff Court.

DC Orr had been accused of assaulting David Douglas, 21, while trying to arrest him in November 2002.

Mr Douglas had claimed the officer punched, kicked and pushed him.

DC Orr denied the allegations, which his solicitor Peter Watson claimed were made up by Douglas and his relatives.

Mr Watson said there was obvious hostility by David Douglas and other members of his family against the police and particularly DC Orr, who seemed to have been a frequent visitor to the household in the course of his duties.
