The schoolgirl was on holiday in Spain
A British schoolgirl has been knocked down and killed by a van driver while on holiday in Spain.

The girl, believed to be from the New Forest area of Hampshire, was walking along a road with a 19-year-old friend when the crash happened near Malaga.

The other girl was left seriously injured. She was said to be a British citizen living in Cartama.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said a Spanish man had been arrested in connection with the crash on 19 March.

Spanish authorities would be conducting the investigation, he said.

Assistance offered

"There were two British teens involved in a road traffic accident on Friday, March 19, in Cartama, Malaga, which caused the death of one and serious injury to another," he said.

"The next-of-kin are aware and the consulate has offered assistance and condolences to the families."

The girl's name has not yet been released by the Foreign office and her age is not known.

Southampton Coroner's Court is making inquiries into the incident.
