Shopkeeper uses saw against thief
The owner of a general store in Rotherham fought off a knife-wielding robber with a saw he was using for DIY.

Colin Proctor was cutting a piece of wood to make a door wedge when a man came into his store in Badsley Moor Lane and tried to break into the till.

A police spokesperson said: "Mr Proctor fought the offender off with his saw.

"The offender continued to assault him with the knife, resulting in a cut to the victim's nose and a bruised hand."

The robber fled with some cigarettes.

He is described as a slim white man, in his mid 20s, with short dark hair.

At the time of the raid he wore a distinctive white and black jacket. Police are appealing for witnesses.
