GP's apology in baby offer case
Adrian and Kelly Love with baby Emma
Adrian and Kelly Love have accepted Dr Singh's apology
A GP accused of trying to buy a seven-week-old baby girl has apologised for his "inopportune remarks".

Adrian and Kelly Love said Dr Anand Singh made the offer when they took their daughter Emma to a surgery in Basford, Stoke-on-Trent, last month.

The couple complained to the police about Dr Singh, who always maintained his comments were only a joke designed to put them at ease.

Mr Love told BBC Radio Stoke he and his wife had accepted the GP's apology.

GMC investigation

"As far as we're concerned, we're happy that we've got an apology," he said.

"He's obviously admitted what he said was totally wrong and we're accepting his apology on the matter."

The Loves received the apology in a letter, after a process of mediation through the Newcastle-under-Lyme Primary Care Trust, which employs Dr Singh.

The couple called in police on 1 February after taking their daughter to the GP, who works with the Basford-based Doctors Co-operative of north Staffordshire.

Detectives referred the case to the General Medical Council (GMC), which investigated the complaint.

A GMC spokeswoman told BBC News Online there were "no outstanding hearings" scheduled to interview Dr Singh about the matter.
