Pensioners forced to leave homes
Elderly residents in a sheltered housing complex have been told their homes are to be demolished.

Calico Housing - which owns Gerald Court in Burnley Wood, Burnley, Lancashire - has apologised to tenants who were not consulted.

The housing association plans to move them into new bungalows as part of a regeneration plan.

The plan is part of Elevate East Lancashire, a housing renewal programme in five boroughs.

'Really disappointed'

Residents however have reservations about the move.

"I was really disappointed because I really don't want to move anywhere else because I feel more secure in a flat than a bungalow - I feel safe," said Ada Smith, 75.

The Elevate programme is earmarked for 13 out of 15 wards in Burnley and will see hundreds of homes bulldozed.
