Schoolchildren help cancer victim
An appeal has been launched by a group of Leicestershire schoolchildren to buy an artificial limb for a 15-year-old friend with bone cancer.

Kayleigh Allen, was diagnosed with the cancer last year, and had to have her left leg amputated.

Pupils at Rawlins Community College at Quorn near Loughborough are working to buy her an artificial leg.

They have already organised sponsored bike rides, non-uniform days, and are selling ribbon badges.

Kayleigh delighted

Her mother, Julie, says news of the fund-raising efforts has given Kayleigh a boost, and encouraged her to return to the college as soon as possible.

"Kayligh's friends have been really good to her," she said.

Kayleigh's year teacher, Matthew Turner, said he was delighted with the efforts of pupils to help.

"Things like this really make you want to come to work every day and work with this type of young people," he said.
