Drifting snow and black ice have caused chaos on North Yorkshire's roads with several routes blocked and even off-road vehicles stuck.
After a day of heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures, snow drifts and black ice made roads treacherous.
Routes around the Scarborough area were particularly bad with even off-road vehicles having problems.
The A170, B1257 and A64 east of York were either partially blocked or badly affected by stretches of ice.
Several cars were trapped in drifting snow on the A171 road between Whitby and Guisborough.
Emergency services urged people not to travel unless absolutely necessary.
On Wednesday thousands of schoolchildren in the county were having a day at home because of the weather conditions.
More than 30 schools closed - mainly in the Pickering and Malton areas.
