A man accused of starting a fire in Grimsby which killed a sleeping lorry driver has admitted lying to police.
Kevin Fielding said he lied to protect a former school friend, Darren Wringe, after both were accused of starting the fire outside the Homebase store.
Derek Bailey, 48, of Bideford, Devon, died in his lorry as he waited to deliver goods, Hull Crown Court heard.
Both Mr Fielding and Mr Wringe deny manslaughter and arson charges.
Both men were caught on CCTV cameras looking in a skip next to the truck less than three minutes before the fire took hold, destroying the left-hand side of the lorry's cab.
But Mr Fielding said he had lied to police in interviews claiming he was not with Mr Wringe but had now changed his story .
The case continues.
