Esplanade attack victim dies

A 65-year-old man has died after he was assaulted in the Cornish town of Fowey on Saturday night.

Patrick Parkes was on his way home after a meal out with his wife and two friends in Fowey when he was attacked on the Esplanade in Fowey.

Following the incident Mr Parkes was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro and was transferred to the specialist neurological unit at Derriford in Plymouth where he died on Wednesday morning.

Daemion John Cain-Purcell, 22, of no fixed address appeared at Bodmin Magistrates' Court on Tuesday morning.

He was charged with causing Mr Parkes grievous bodily harm.

He was also charged with causing Anthony Williams actual bodily harm on the same occasion.

There was no application for bail and he was remanded in custody to appear before Truro Crown Court next week.
