Police have said the man was aged between 20 and 35-years-old

A television appeal has been made for information about the identity of a man found tied up and stabbed at the bottom of Beachy Head.

The body was discovered at the foot of the cliffs, near Eastbourne, on 16 January.

On Tuesday, Detective Chief Inspector Tony O'Donnell, in charge of the case, appeared on the BBC Crimewatch programme in an attempt to find out who the man was.

"He was stabbed a number of times in the head and face and body.

"He was tied up, trussed up, and then put in a barrel and thrown 500ft off a cliff," said Mr O'Donnell.

The victim is described as being 5 ft 9 in tall and of slim build.

He had been wrapped in a double bed sheet before being thrown off Beachy Head.

Fingerprint and DNA evidence showed the man was not known as a criminal in Britain, said Mr O'Donnell.

It is hoped a computer generated image of the victim will help trace his identity as well as details about his dental work.

The man had an unusual dental plate which did appear to have been made in Britian.

On Wednesday Sussex Police said they had received more than 20 calls about the case which they were following up.
