Director Sydney Pollack looks set to receive permission to film a thriller with Nicole Kidman at the United Nations headquarters New York.
Security council president Heraldo Munoz said that no objections had been raised to proposals to film The Interpreter on the premises.
Kidman will play a UN interpreter who becomes involved in an assassination plot. The film also stars Sean Penn.
The UN generally rejects requests to film on its premises.
The film sees Kidman's character become the target of a plot to kill an African leader due to make a speech to the UN.
Pollack is one of Hollywood's most respected producers and directors. His films include the 1968 drama The Swimmer, a cult hit starring Burt Lancaster.
He also directed Absence of Malice, the Dustin Hoffmann hit Tootsie and Oscar winner Out of Africa.
As a producer his films have also counted the Gwyneth Paltrow romantic comedy Sliding Doors and The Talented Mr Ripley.
