Murder warning to brick vandals
The smashed windscreen of Rosemarie Govett's car
Rosemarie Govett was on the A28 when the windscreen was smashed.

Vandals who throw stones and bricks at passing vehicles are being warned they could be charged with attempted murder or even murder.

Kent Police is aiming the warning at a group of youths believed to have been throwing objects at vehicles in an area of Folkestone.

Most of the offences have taken place in Hill Road and the bottom of Dover Hill between 2000 GMT and 2130 GMT.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Hogben said a number of incidents had been reported in January where motorists' windscreens had been smashed.

Det Chief Insp Hogben said: "We are treating this very seriously and I would warn anyone involved in throwing objects at traffic they could end up behind bars.

"It is very dangerous because it startles drivers and can hinder their vision which could cause accidents."

He said CCTV footage was being examined to try to identify those responsible.

Before Christmas a number of youths were arrested for throwing items at traffic during an operation to crackdown on anti-social behaviour.

The warning comes after a woman lost the sight in one eye when a brick shattered her windscreen.

Rosemarie Govett was driving along the A28 at Bethersden in November 2003 when the incident occurred.

And in December a window of a bus was smashed when an object was thrown at it as it travelled on the A2 to Canterbury.
