Card fraudsters target Wiltshire
Credit cards
Some victims have lost up to £500
Wiltshire residents are being warned to be vigilant against credit card scams.

Bogus finance officers are ringing and emailing people to gain information that allows them to access card accounts, says the county council.

Trading Standards officers at the council say sensitive information should never be given out to anyone who calls or emails unexpectedly.

Up to £500 has been stolen from some victims. Card companies say they never ask for such information in this way.

A council spokeswoman said: "We have had a number of reports of people being targeted by these fraudsters, who say the person is at risk of card fraud and ask for information like the card number.

"Everyone should be very careful not to respond to such requests for information.

"Visa and MasterCard confirm they will never ask for such details as they know exactly what is on your card and do not need to verify it."
