House sale to fund writing dream
Winston Pate outside his house
Mr Pate wants to continue his writing career
A man is selling his Grade II listed house in Somerset on the condition that he can continue living in it for the rest of his life.

The two-bedroom Georgian terrace in Taunton is expected to sell for not less than £150,000.

The owner, Winston Pate, 59, told the BBC he wants to free up the capital he has invested in the property, so he can pursue his career as a writer.

Mr Pate, who worked in IT, has just had his first novel published.

'Long term investment'

He added: "This would help my security and I would pay rent below the market rate."

"I like where I am living. This is the best house I have ever lived in."

This system is already in operation on the Continent, where it is designed to provide security for elderly homeowners.

Local estate agent Nick Maddocks, said: "For sure there's a buyer out there for this: someone who has capital to invest in the long term."

Mr Pate, a bachelor with no heirs, says he has received serious interest, and expects to secure a deal soon.
