Derriford Hospital
The 65-year-old is being treated at Derriford Hospital
A man has appeared in court in Cornwall following an incident in Fowey which left a 65-year-old man fighting for his life.

Twenty-two year old Daemion John Cain-Purcell of no fixed address appeared at Bodmin Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

He was charged with causing Patrick Parkes grievous bodily harm.

He is also charged with causing Anthony Williams actual bodily harm on the same occasion.

There was no application for bail and he was remanded in custody to appear before Truro Crown Court next week.

Mr Parkes was on his way home after a meal out with his wife and two friends in Fowey on Saturday night.

The police say an incident happened on the Esplanade in Fowey and Mr Parkes hit his head on the ground.

He was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro and was transferred to the specialist neurological unit at Derriford in Plymouth where a spokesperson said his condition "remains critical" following brain surgery.
