Child killer jailed for 10 years
Lee Camplin
Camplin had shown no remorse fror his actions
A man from Halifax who beat his girlfriend's young son to death has been jailed for 10 years

Lee Camplin, 20, was found guilty in December of the manslaughter of Kelvin Cochrane who was 30-months-old when he died. Camplin was cleared of murder.

Kelvin's head was banged against a wall in his bedroom at the couple's home in Queen's Road, Halifax.

He died in hospital from injuries so severe they were described as being like those of a motorway crash victim.

No remorse

Sentencing Camplin at Leeds Crown Court, Mr Justice Geoffrey Grigson said: "You caused the death of Kelvin Cochrane but that was the culmination of your cruelty to him.

"In the last days of his life you not only beat him but humiliated him and tortured him."

He added that Camplin had shown no remorse and sentenced him to seven years for the manslaughter and three years, to run consecutively, for child cruelty.

During the trial at Teesside Crown Court last year the jury was told that when the toddler was taken to hospital he was found with bruising and cigarette burns in addition to his other injuries.

Kelvin's mother, Stacey Wood, 18, was sentenced to a three-year community rehabilitation order for neglect.
