Bread made from a recipe devised by a baker's grandfather more than 100 years ago has been voted Britain's tastiest.

Welbournes Bakery in Navenby High Street, Lincolnshire, was set up in the 1890s by Cornelius Welbourne.

This week it was voted the best bread maker in the country by the Home Grown Cereals Authority as part of British Breakfast week.

Baker Peter Welbourne said he did not even know he was nominated.

He said: "The nice thing about this prize is that we didn't enter the competition, our customers entered it and that made it a little bit special."

The small bakers in the town's high street has been in the family ever since it was set up and sells, among other things, traditional Lincolnshire plum bread.
