Bonnet chase Pc gets award
An off-duty policeman who clung to the bonnet of a speeding car in an attempt to stop a woman being abducted is being rewarded for his bravery.

Pc Michael Green is among more than 20 officers from Leicestershire Police to receive one of the Chief Constable's Awards.

Pc Green, based in Loughborough, was going to bed when he saw a woman being forced into a car, in October 2001.

The woman was eventually released and two men jailed for kidnapping.

When the policeman saw the woman being abducted he ran out of the house and attempted to stop the vehicle by holding on to the bonnet for a mile, while the driver tried manoeuvres to get him off.

The men were also charged with causing grievous bodily harm.

Pc Green will receive a commendation award on Tuesday from the chief constable at a special ceremony in Enderby.

Other certificates will also be presented to a policeman who saved a baby that had swallowed its tongue and three officers who worked on a major terrorism case which resulted in two men receiving jail sentences.
