Burglar told to give £20,000 to victim
A burglar has been ordered to hand over a £20,000 inheritance to the victim of his crime.

Daniel Dady, 20, of Norwich, was also sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison after he was convicted of stealing more than £100,000 of jewellery from a house in the city.

Dady had used the fact he had inherited a substantial amount of money part of his defence during a trial at Norwich Crown Court, arguing because he had such a lot of money he did not need to commit crime.

But after he was convicted Judge Peter Jacobs said he saw an opportunity to compensate the female victim and took it.

'Unique' decision

Dady was forced to part with £20,000 inheritance money he had received from a relative.

Mr Jacobs said on Monday if there was a chance he could get a criminal's assets, he would give the assets away.

A Norfolk Police spokesman said detectives thought the judge's move was "unique".

Dady was convicted for the burglary, which took place last May, in November and sentenced at King's Lynn Crown Court on Friday.

Detectives have not recovered the stolen property.
