Fight to save biscuit business
Furniss products
Receivers are hopeful the firm will be saved
Cornish confectionary company Furniss Foods has gone into receivership more than 100 years after it was established.

Redruth-based Furniss Foods Limited, which is famous for its farings, biscuits and other confectionary, employs 150 people.

Richard Hill, of receivers KPMG, said there were no plans for any redundancies and trading was continuing while efforts were made to sell the company as a going concern.

He said there had already been significant interest from various parties, and he was hopeful a sale could be achieved.

Furniss is the third business in the Redruth area to get into difficulties this year.

'Bucks trend'

The Redruth Brewery has gone into administration and book-binding business Neal Dataday has closed its Camborne factory with the loss of 20 jobs.

Tim Jones, of the Devon and Cornwall Business Council, said: "It's very sad that these old companies that have such a history behind them have got into trouble."

"However, this really bucks the trend because Cornwall has been doing very well in the food and drink sector.

"Ginsters, Roach and W Rose, have all been doing extremely well and we would be hopeful that this company can be rescued."
