A man has died in a car crash involving a fire engine which was responding to an emergency call.
The accident happened at Liverpool Road, Salford, Greater Manchester, at about 1210 GMT, police said.
A red Ford Escort was in collision with the fire engine which was on its way to nearby Astley Court old people's home, Greater Manchester Police said.
The driver had to be cut from the car and was taken to Hope Hospital, Salford, but died in the accident and emergency department.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire Service said the crew was responding to an alarm at the old people's home, which was triggered when food caught fire after being left in a microwave for too long.
"A second engine assisted at the accident involving the first," he added.
"They were the officers who cut the man from the vehicle."
One firefighter was taken to hospital suffering from minor injuries.
