The trial of alleged conman Robert Hendy-Freegard has been halted at London's Blackfriars Crown Court and the jury discharged.
A new hearing, which is expected to last two months, has been fixed for 19 April.
The 32-year-old car salesman, of High Street, Blyth, near Worksop, Nottinghamshire, denies a 21-count indictment.
It includes allegations of kidnapping and stealing in excess of £600,000.
Other charges include threats to kill, assault and deception.
Mr Hendy-Freegard met three of his alleged victims while they were students at Harper Adams Agricultural College in Newport, Shropshire.
