A potholer had to be rescued after he injured his shoulder while exploring a cave system.
Cumbria Police said they received a call at around 1615 GMT on Sunday alerting them to an injured potholer in the Easegill cave system.
The cave network lies on the border between Cumbria, North Yorkshire and Lancashire.
Two potholers were in the system when a 48-year-man from West Yorkshire suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder.
The other potholer, also believed to be in his 40s, made his way to the surface and raised the alarm.
Around 30 members of the Cave Rescue Organisation from Clapham, North Yorkshire, were involved in bringing the man to the surface.
He was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
