Six involved in fatal crash
A man was killed and five others were injured in a head-on crash in Lancashire.

The man who died and his passenger were both thrown from their vehicle during the accident in Belthorn on Sunday.

Accident investigators spent five hours at the scene on Elton Road, from 1640 GMT.

On Monday, two people were being treated for serious injuries, after the accident close to the junction with Blackburn Road.

Multiple injuries

The dead man - the driver of a Peugeot 306 - was later named as Michael Jones, aged 33, from Bolton.

He and passenger, Leanne Roberts, 23, from Great Harwood, were thrown out of the car upon impact with a Vauxhall Cavalier, driven by 72-year-old Harold Todd.

Mr Jones was pronounced dead on arrival at Blackburn Royal Infirmary (BRI).

Ms Roberts, who was taken to the same hospital, is being treated for serious head and leg injuries.

Walking wounded

Mr Todd, from Blackburn, also suffered serious multiple injuries and had to be cut free from the wreckage of his car.

He is also being treated at the BRI.

Three people who were travelling with Mr Todd were "walking wounded" following the crash, Lancashire Police said.

Witnesses of the crash should contact the road policing unit at Blackburn police station.
