A 22-year-old man has been charged in connection with an attack in a Cornish town which left a 65-year-old man in a critical condition.
The victim, who was with his wife and friends, was allegedly attacked on Fowey's esplanade on Sunday night after he complained to a group of youths about their behaviour.
He is being treated in the neurological department of Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
The alleged attacker, from St Austell, has also been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm to another man at the scene, and causing harassment, alarm and distress.
He will appear at Bodmin Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
