Island sees crime decrease
Levels of crime in Guernsey fell in 2003, according to the latest figures from the police.

The figures show a drop in the number of reported crimes and a 6% rise in the detection rate.

Break-ins to homes fell significantly, from 212 in 2002 to 145 in 2003.

Chief Officer of Guernsey Police, George Le Page, said it was a pleasing result, especially as the force was still under-resourced.

He said the force had been very proactive on the streets and that was one of a number of reasons for the decrease.
