Anonymous donor saves carers' group

A centre for young carers has been saved thanks to an anonymous donor.

A businessman from Northamptonshire has stepped in to keep North Norfolk Family Outreach Project going.

The group, which helps young carers, had been due to close in March.

One of the carers it helps is nine-year-old Sam Moffatt, who cares for his mother Sally, 29, and helps look after his three small siblings at their home at Letheringsett, near Holt.

She suffers from depression and agoraphobia and has not left the house for more than 12 months.

Sam also helps to care for his two sisters, six-year-old Kerenza and Liberty, two, and one-year-old brother Zebedee.

Sam, who is being taught at home, would have lost his only support when the group closed because of a shortage of funds.

A viewer in Northamptonshire who saw the story on BBC Look East has given the group £6,000 to keep it going for another year.

David Todd, from the Norwich and District Carers Forum, said the money would make a big difference.
