Prisoners' art on display
One of the pieces of work on display
The work is being shown at Thebes Gallery in Lewes
Artwork created by inmates at a prison in Sussex have been put on display.

Ceramics, paintings and drawings by prisoners from Lewes Prison are included in an exhibition called Time Well Spent.

The show was initiated by the prison's education department and is a collaboration between prison charity Inside Out and Lewes District Council.

June Ward of the Inside Out Trust said: "This work is so valuable to prisoners as it builds up their confidence and self-esteem.

"People who never thought of themselves as good at anything suddenly realise they have a skill.

"Often this leads them back into education and puts them on the path to rehabilitation."

The pieces of work are being shown at the Thebes Gallery in Lewes until 8 February.

Most of the work on display has come from prisoners' studies for nationally accredited programmes.

The gallery is in Church Twitten, off the High Street.
