Concern over nightclub plans
Police in Ulverston say they have grave reservations about plans by a nightclub to stay open later.

Buffers nightclub has applied for permission to stay open until 0300 GMT.

But there has been furious opposition from people living in the area.

South Lakeland Council has received 62 letters and petitions from local people who are against plans for the nightclub to remain open for an extra hour.

Residents say they have already have problems with rowdiness, noise, drunkenness, vandalism and unsanitary behaviour.

A report from Cumbria Police said not all Ulverston's problems with anti-social behaviour can be blamed on Buffers.

But Inspector Dave Spedding admitted he had reservations about the impact on the town of having a club open so late.

Councillors are to consider the licence application next week.
