Building sites shortlisted
Derby city
The council has sites across the city
Derby City Council has shorlisted five sites as possible locations for its new offices.

The move would involve consolidating adminstrative buildings to one location.

A report found the council's current accommodation, particularly St Mary's Gate and the Council House, was "poor" and unsuitable for working.

The council is now looking into whether proposals to relocate would be economically viable.

Sites the council is considering for new buildings are:

  • Becketwell

  • Middleton House site at St Mary's Gate and the Princes supermarket site

  • The former Friar Gate station

  • Darwin Place

  • Stores Road

The Council already owns St Mary's Gate, Darwin Place and Stores Road.

Deputy council leader Philip Hickson said: "The report spells out very clearly that the option of the council spending significant sums of money to stay as we are will not present value for money.

"It is a big step for the council to take, but looking at options to build new offices to meet future needs is the only way forward."

The council currently operates from various sites which it owns in the city centre, including the Council House, Middleton House and Roman House.

It also leases offices at Celtic House and Saxon House.
