Bus pass plan 'disgraceful'
Buses
Bus passes may not be valid during peak hours
Plans to revise Leicester's bus pass scheme have been criticised by union officials.

Leicester City Council is considering limiting the hours when pass holders can use buses, as part of an attempt to reduce a £10m budget shortfall.

It may reduce the amount given to its pass scheme by around £200,000.

If it goes ahead, those who use the system will have to pay full fares to travel during the morning rush-hour.

Members of the GMB union described the proposal as "a disgraceful attack on the freedoms of the elderly and disabled".

The union's spokesperson for Leicester, Graham Carvell, said it could also have a detrimental impact on local industries.

The council is due to consider the plans as part of its budget on 16 February.
