Teenager dies in taxi crash

A girl aged 16 has died after the taxi she was a passenger in was in collision with a van.

The crash happened at 0255GMT on Saturday when the white Peugeot taxi turned right into Chisholm Street heading to Ashton.

The 28-year-old driver of the Transit van suffered a shoulder injury after his vehicle overturned in the impact.

The 69-year-old taxi driver suffered minor injuries.

A 19-year-old woman from Gorton who was also travelling in the back of the taxi suffered minor injuries to her leg and a slight head injury.

She was taken to the Manchester Royal Infirmary.
