Murder police patrol street
Colin Johnson
Mr Johnson's body was found by his girlfriend
Extra officers will be patrolling an area of Sunderland exactly a week after a man was murdered.

The body of Colin Johnson was discovered at his home in Pickering Road, in the Pennywell area, on 17 January.

Northumbria Police officers were called to the house at 2230 GMT by neighbours who were alerted by the screams of Mr Johnson's girlfriend.

His girlfriend had found his body on the living room floor.

Police said the 40-year-old had been virtually decapitated in the brutal attack.

'No charge'

A mobile police station has been set up in Pickering Road where Mr Johnson lived.

On Saturday night, police will be in the area, reassuring residents and speaking to people who may have been in the vicinity at the time.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have any information, regardless of how unimportant they think it may be, to contact them.

A local man helping with inquiries into murder was released on Friday night without charge.
