Man shot on doorstep
A man was shot up to five times on his doorstep by a masked gunman, police have revealed.

The attack happened in Astbury Street, Congleton, south Cheshire on Wednesday night.

The 32-year-old victim, who is originally from Manchester, was chased down the road before the gunman made his escape.

A 29-year-old Congleton man arrested in connection with incident has been released on bail.

Witness appeal

The injured man is in hospital waiting for an operation, police said.

They said he has been arrested over an unrelated matter.

Detectives do not have a motive for the shooting, although they are convinced it was not a random attack.

Any witnesses are being urged to come forward.
