Music star Ryan Adams has broken a wrist after a fall at a UK gig.

The rock singer, 29, was performing a sell-out show at the Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool when the accident happened on Thursday night.

Adams was singing the last number from his set when he plunged from the stage and suffered a fractured wrist, his spokesman said.

"It was quite a big drop," the spokesman added. It is not yet known if his tour will be cancelled.

Fans said Adams at first tried to carry on with the concert, but then stumbled off clutching his arm.

One said: "One minute he was on the stage and the next he had disappeared.

"He went down with a thud and we couldn't believe he was trying to continue singing."

Adams was taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

A spokesman for the hospital said: "We can confirm that Ryan has been treated for a fracture to his arm."

Adams' spokesman said: "He is travelling to London today to see a specialist to assess the damage.

"We don't yet know how serious it is."

Adams shot to fame with his critically-acclaimed "Gold" album.

He won the best solo artist at the 2003 NME Music Awards.
