Staff protest over school closure
St Thomas More School, Bristol
The school has been threatened with closure before
Staff at a Bristol Catholic school say they are prepared to take industrial action to try and save it from closure.

St Thomas More in Horfield has already escaped a previous threat of closure after the city council offered it a new home at a site in Lockleaze.

But a leaked letter from the Clifton Diocese appearently shows the plans are likely to be shelved because of the expense involved.

The letter suggests it would cost £750,000 to make the site habitable.

No decision

Teachers say this means the school is likely to close and that they are prepared to take action to prevent that happening.

In a statement, Bristol City Council said: "No decision has been made about the future of St Thomas More School.

"The headteacher has been kept fully informed about developments and the education department has met with staff.

"There will be full consultation if and when a decision is made."
