Wales@Westminster weblog

It's Wales@Westminster weblog, BBC Wales' Parliamentary correspondent David Cornock's diary on political life. It's a two-way process though, so add your comments too.

Take another bow (tie)
posted by David | 1758 GMT |

Martyn Jones has taken issue with the contributor who thought he was one of the few people to consider a bow tie fashionable (see weblog below).

Martyn himself has been in touch.

"Alex has got it wrong. I wear a bow tie to be a bit different and not to be at the cutting edge of haute couture.

"It has the added advantage that unlike an ordinary tie, it never gets in my soup. It also it sets me apart from the army of other MPs who wear beards and glasses.

"I am in good company in the bow tie club. Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein and Sigmond Freud have all copied me, but my personal favourite is Humphrey Bogart"

Anyone wanting to emulate Martyn Jones can do so by visiting:

More news from Thumbs Up for Lembit, the weblog that describes itself as the ramblings of a political anorak - http://alexfolkes.blogspot.com/.

Alex gave evidence to the Welsh affairs select committee inquiry into empowering young people.

He writes: "I want to put a special word in for Martyn Jones MP, the chair of the Committee.

"Mr Jones is a great bloke but the only person in the world who is not a doctor who still thinks that wearing a bow tie with a normal suit is somehow fashionable."

PS Thanks to all of you who wrote in to explain the origins of the website's name.

Iain Dale who may not be an MP yet but is standing as a candidate has an interesting blog. Because blogging is quite spontaneous it is likely to make MP's motivations more transparent.
