Royal to open flood defences
Shrewsbury's new flood defences are due to be officially opened in April by the Princess Royal.

Over £3 million has been spent by the Environment Agency to build flood defences along the River Severn to protect homes and businesses in the Frankwell area of Shrewsbury.

A new £2.5 million flood resistant teaching block at the town's Wakeman School, Abbey Foregate, will be opened as well.

It was built to prevent a repeat of the flooding problems which have hit the school in recent years.

Shrewsbury is one of several towns on the banks of the River Severn that has been hit by increased flooding over the last couple of years.

The official opening is due to take place on 2 April.
