A gun attack on a house outside Dungiven in County Londonderry was not sectarian, the police have said

Four rounds were fired from what is believed to have been a shotgun at the property in the Feeny area.

The incident took place at about 2230 GMT on Thursday.

Two masked men using sticks smashed glass in the front door, while a third shot out the bottom half with the gun.

The occupants, who were in the back of the house, were unhurt.

It is not yet known what the motive for the attack was.

Police have appealed for information following the shooting.

SDLP councilor Michael Coyle said: "This is another deeply disturbing incident of violence in the Dungiven area.

"There can be no justification for anyone to take the law into their own hands. "
