A mother and her three-week-old baby were hijacked by two men as they sat in a car outside a Birmingham chip shop.
The 33-year-old woman was waiting in the BMW saloon for her husband to return with a takeaway meal at about 2200 GMT on Wednesday when the men jumped inside.
The offenders drove the car from the shop on Coventry Road in Hay Mills, before dumping it a mile away near parkland in Victoria Road, Stechford.
The car's engine had been left running to keep it warm, police said.
The men had climbed into the driver and front passenger seats and ordered the woman, from Sheldon, to get out, without noticing her small baby.
They drove off with her in the car when she refused to leave her child, who she said was ill.
The offenders - described as white and in their late teens or early 20s - escaped with the woman's handbag.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
