Residents reject funfair switch
Battle of Flowers competition
The Association wants to switch the funfair to the People's Park
St Helier parishioners have voted against moving Jersey's Battle of Flowers funfair to the People's Park.

The Battle of Flowers Association wants to change the funfair venue from the Lower Park at Victoria Avenue because it is too dangerous for pedestrians.

But people living in the area around People's Park are not happy about the noise and disruption the funfair would cause and they voted against the move at a public meeting on Wednesday night.

A final decision on whether the funfair moves will be made by the St Helier Roads Committee.

Peter Robbins, who lives near the park, said the 16-day fair in August would be the last straw for people who already had to put up with anti-social behaviour in their neighbourhood.

Police Inspector Sara Garwood said the situation was not ideal, but extra police officers were already on the beat in the area.
