Policeman attacked on patrol

Two men have been arrested after a police officer was attacked while on foot patrol in a Cornwall town on Christmas morning.

The officer was in Broad Street, Launceston, in the early hours of Thursday when he was confronted by a man.

The officer managed to restrain him, but while he was waiting for other police units to arrive he was attacked by a second man from behind.

Both men were arrested and are being questioned.

The officer was bruised in the incident, but otherwise unhurt.
