Boy cut free from toy
The Fimbles
The Fimbles are characters on a Cbeebies programme.
Firefighters used snippers and a hacksaw to free a three-year-old boy's finger from a Christmas toy.

Claire Kidman, of Winter Road in Norwich, said she spent nearly an hour trying to free her son Tom from the toy on Christmas Day before she called emergency services and was told to bring the boy to a fire station.

Ms Kidman, 36, a finance officer, said Tom and her five-month-old son Ben were bathing on Thursday evening when the saga began.

She said Tom was playing with a Fisher Price Fimbles Float 'N' Fun Slide, which was about the size of a small fruit bowl.

"He somehow got his finger in a hole on the toy and once it was in that was that; I poured shower gel down the hole where his finger was hoping that would ease it out but it didn't.

"We got out tools and tried everything we could think of.

"My son was shaking and crying and we were getting nowhere."

Ms Kidman said she was afraid of hurting the boy by removing the toy with a screwdriver, so she called 999 and was told to take Tom to the local fire station.

"So we got him half-dressed and took him down to the fire station and they cut the toy off using snippers and a hacksaw", she said.

"The firemen were very nice and asked him if he wanted to sit in a fire engine and so on, but I think by that stage he had had enough and just wanted to get home.

"He's fine today and all's well that ends well."
