The council will pick up unwanted trees
Somerset residents are being offered the chance to dispose of their Christmas trees free of charge.

Bath & North East Somerset Council (BANES) is running a scheme to collect unwanted trees and cardboard packaging over the festive period.

Details of where and when the items will be collected are available on the council's website.

People can also take their Christmas trees to recycling centres in Bath, Keynsham and Midsomer Norton.

Pete Wakenshaw, from BANES, said: "Cardboard can mount up in people's homes at Christmas from all the presents and food packaging.

"We want people to make use of this service by putting out cardboard, folded flat and tied neatly, on the right collection day.

"The council will collect most types of cardboard and brown paper including food packaging and cardboard boxes, although we are unable to take drinks and liquids cartons."
