A new £2m road into Teesside International Airport has been given the go-ahead.
The project, which will create 40 jobs, will link the airport to the A67 and will include a cycle way and pedestrian footway.
Government Office North East has approved the funding from regional development agency, One NorthEast.
The work, which will start in the new year, will ease traffic congestion during the summer months and free up space on the existing road.
Phil Hughes, board member for One NorthEast, said: "This major piece of infrastructure will be vital to unlocking the potential of Teesside Airport as a key international operator, a magnet for supplier businesses and a provider of jobs."
Existing businesses are also expected to benefit from the investment with access substantially improved to the International Fire Training Centre, two hotels, cargo operations and smaller firms within the terminal.
Hugh Lang, managing director of Teesside International Airport, said "This is very good news for the airport and our customers.
"Improved access is a key element in our ambitious development plans which include a commitment from Peel Airports to invest £20m over the next five years, coupled with the planned rebranding of the Airport under the 'Durham Tees Valley' banner next year."
