A post office worker is recovering in hospital after an armed robbery at a branch in Stoke-on-Trent.

A masked man threatened staff with a handgun at the Park Estate post office in Smallthorne, Burslem, at about 0830 GMT on Wednesday morning.

One of the workers received head injuries and was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.

Police said the gun was not fired.

The offender got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

He is described as 5ft 10in tall, of medium build, and was wearing dark clothes and a bobble hat, with a scarf covering part of his face.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
