Five people have been arrested in north Belfast following a spate of robberies at retail premises in the city.

The police were called to Legagh Court just after 0800 GMT on Wednesday following reports of a man brandishing a handgun.

Police fired two warning shots.

A police officer was assaulted by a suspect who climbed onto advertising hoarding and then fell off, the police said.

Both men were taken to hospital, but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Four people were arrested at the time. A fifth person was arrested later.

Three guns were found in a follow-up search at the junction of Leeroy Street and the Crumlin Road.
