Baby girl abandoned in street
Baby Holly
Holly was found abandoned in a cot blanket
A baby girl has been found abandoned in a street in Liverpool.

The five-day-old child was found at 0710 GMT in the Walton area of the city by a man on his way to work.

The man heard crying and at first thought it was a cat, but on closer inspection realised it was a baby girl.

She was lying in the street wrapped in a cot blanket.

He took her to a police station where officers called paramedics to check her over.

She was then taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital where she was christened Holly by hospital staff.

She is believed to have been well looked after and is now being cared for in hospital.

Merseyside Police appealed for her mother to come forward as she may need medical attention.

A spokeswoman said: "Holly is doing very well.

"She is a lovely little girl and we want to be able to reunite her with her parents."
