Body in canal identified
The body of a man found in a London canal has been identified.

Police were called at about 1248 GMT on 20 December after a man's body was seen in Regents Canal near Muriel Street in north London.

The man has now been identified as George Nicolaides, 33, from Edmonton, who worked in the accounts department of a firm of solicitors in the City.

He was last been seen by a work colleague at 1830 GMT on 19 December in the Fenchurch Street area.

A member of the public found Mr Nicolaides' clothes folded on top of a blue rucksack at 0700 in Wharf Street on Saturday.

But officers are keen to locate some items of clothing which are still missing - his shirt, blue trousers and black shoes.

A post-mortem examination was inconclusive so more tests are being carried out.

Scotland Yard said Mr Nicolaides' death is being treated as unexplained at this stage.
