Shopper's £15,000 cash find
A Christmas shopper handed in £15,000 cash she found in a carrier bag at a supermarket checkout.

Customers at Asda in Great Bridge, near Tipton, West Midlands, watched in amazement as 52-year-old Susan Newey gave the money to security staff.

An Asda spokeswoman said the cash was collected 20 minutes later by a man who had forgotten it while paying for goods.

Mrs Newey was presented with a £50 Asda voucher and a bouquet as thanks for her honesty, the spokeswoman added.

This was an act of astonishing honesty

"When I opened it to see I nearly died," Mrs Newey, from nearby Oldbury, said.

"I thought someone had maybe left their shopping behind.

"I could not believe it when I saw all that money."

The spokeswoman said the cash had been returned to the man who left it behind.

"It was handed to security workers.

"They held on to it until the gentleman returned, when they did some identity checks to make sure he was the rightful owner."

Store manager Andrew Perkins said: "It all happened very quickly but clearly this was an act of astonishing honesty, a really fantastic thing to do."
